Science Hill High School Interior Renovations

Preston Construction has began work on the Interior Renovations for Science Hill High School. This project will consist of renovating 16 classrooms, bathrooms, corridors and related support spaces. Project Manager, Rodney Conduff and Superintendent Raymond DeWitte are off to a great start on this project. Rodney stated, “We have a great team in place to have a successful project.” This is a 6.1 Million dollar project for the City and should be complete early 2024.

Warriors' Path State Park - New Marina and Visitor Center

Architect: Reedy & Sykes Owner: State of Tennessee

The 2nd part of the Warriors Path State project for Preston Construction is to rebuild the marina and visitors center. The existing 50-year-old marina will be demolished once the new 4,300-square-foot marina is built. The new marina will have a food area with a large dining area and public restrooms. The public will still be able to rent space and boats and paddle boats at the marina. There will be 40 covered slips for boats and eight uncovered slips for temporary rentals. The expectation is to have the new marina open by summer of 2022.

Lake Ridge Elementary School Renovations and Addition

Preston Construction has began work on the new addition and renovations to Lake Ridge Elementary School. This project will construct a new two level, 8 classroom pod addition and HVAC upgrades to the existing school. The project is a 10 Million dollar project and is set to be done by mid 2023. Project Manager Rodney Conduff and Superintendent Ron Sams are excited to have this project off the ground.

Watauga Lake Custom Home

Architect: Thomas Weems Architect

Preston Construction was contracted to build this custom home. The build is a 5,000 sf, multi-level, Modern Farm House that features gas fireplaces, white oak flooring and wrought iron features. There are beautiful windows throughout with views of Watauga Lake. There are lots of recreational rooms. storage and added bonus space. The infinity pool is surrounded by a travertine pool deck. This home is one to see!!

Warriors' Path SP Deferred Maintenance

Who is ready to go camping? The State of Tennessee has contracted Preston Construction to renovate the existing Overflow Campground at Warriors Path State Park. The renovation will include all sites to have electrical, water and sewer systems. They will have new asphalt paving at all the campsites, parking areas and main roads. Each site will also have a picnic table, grill and fire ring. See you in the summer!

A $3.2 million renovation is finished, and should be ready for the Unicoi County football team’s 2020 season opener. The new stadium includes new and expanded seating, a new press box, new lights, a concession stand, fencing and paving. Aluminum seating has replaced sections of wooden and concrete bleachers, and blue chair-back seating adorns the upper portion of the middle two sections increasing the seating capacity to 3,000 from 2,400. Preston Construction and BLS have worked together for many years on many projects and that makes for a great partnership when you have a project like this. Preston won this project through a Public Bid Process at 3.3M dollars.

East Tennessee State University Safety and Structural Repairs

East Tennessee State University Safety and Structural Repairs - Memorial Hall East Plaza

Architect: Cope Architecture Owner: Tennessee Board of Regents

We are excited to work with Cope Architecture on this project. This project will be at Memorial Hall (Mini Dome) at ETSU. It will consist of removing existing site concrete and constructing a new exterior plaza that will be ADA compliant. Preston Construction was selected through a bidding process. The price is $1.1 million dollars. This finished project is expected to be complete in July 2020.

Bristol Recreational Center and Facility Update

Architect: Shaw & Shanks Architects, PC Location: 611 Bluff City, Hwy, Bristol, TN 37620 Owner: State of Tennessee, Department of Military

This project is a renovation that will include a complete re-roof and interior updates such as finishes, doors and hardware, interior and exterior masonry repairs and window replacements. Related plumbing, HVAC, and electrical are also included. Shaw & Shanks and Preston Construction have partnered on past projects and are a great fit together. This project should be complete May 2020.

This addition to the existing Clinchfield Federal Credit Union is designed with a structural steel frame with a masonry stone, block and brick exterior to match the existing building. The addition will house new offices and a technology room. We are excited to partner with TH&P and Clinchfield Federal Credit Union on this project.

Unicoi Elementary School replaced their existing HVAC systems. This project was done during the summer months while the faculty, staff and students were on summer break. The teachers were so thankful for the new systems when they came back to start the new school year. We are appreciative of all our subcontractors and the partnership with Beeson, Lusk & Street that made this project a smooth process!

This renovation made the necessary changes to make the football field ADA compliant.  With the removal of old sidewalks, curbs and paving, then grading from the top of the hill to the bottom gave us the preparation needed to start working on the new ADA access.  New retaining walls, handrails, fencing and sidewalks have been added.

50th Anniversary

Preston Construction, the Johnson City-based company, owned by Richard Preston and Claudia Preston McCord is celebrating 50 years in business this year.  The company was founded in June 1967.

On August 31, 2017, they marked their anniversary with a celebration lunch at Founders Park in Johnson City, TN for their clients both past and present, their subcontractors and their employees, architects, other affiliates, friends and family.  They were able to showcase their 50 year history with old tools and photographs throughout the years.  About 200 people attended the 2 hour event.   Richard stated, “it was a humbling event to see how many “well wishers” came out to the event and supported the company.  I am excited at the direction Preston Construction is heading and we all look forward to what the future brings.  We want to sincerely thank our employees, clients and partners for the trust they have placed in Preston Construction Co. that has allowed us to continue to grow and serve you today.”

While the company’s services have expanded, their founding values of quality, integrity and hard work have remained true.  They continue to provide a caring environment for their employees and build long-term relationships with all their affiliates.  We are proud to celebrate our 50-year milestone with our employees, clients, and partners—and look forward to the next 50 years!

Johnson City East Tennessee State University Day Center

Johnson City East Tennessee State University Day Center

Architect: Reedy & Sykes Architecture and Design Location: 202 W. Fairview, Johnson City, TN Owner: State of Tennessee, Board of Regents

The project is a new construction and consists of a new metal building and brick structure to host the East Tennessee State University College of Nursing Students and the local homeless community to go to during the day to receive essential services. The facility will be 4,400 GSF and will replace the existing Johnson City Day Center. A welcome area, exam rooms, kitchen area, and showers are among the project. The expected completion is January 2018

2017 Contractor of the Year Nominee

Preston Construction was recently recognized as a national finalist for the 2017 Contractor of the Year honor by Equipment World Magazine.   They were among 12 finalists for the magazine’s prestigious award.  As a finalist the company will be featured in an upcoming issue of Equipment World Magazine.  The finalists, which were from all over the United States, were recognized and honored during a weekend event at The Wynn Las Vegas, March 10-12. Richard Preston and his wife, Holly, attended the event, where they, along with the other finalists, were interviewed by judges, event moderators, Caterpillar industry leaders and executives.  Richard was honored to be among the Contractor of the Year finalists.  “It was a humbling experience to sit in a room and field questions with some of the most gifted and well-respected contractors in the country,” he said. “I learned a great deal from listening and sharing ideas with these industry experts and look forward to staying in touch with some of the individuals I met through this experience.  “I am excited at the direction Preston Construction is heading and we all look forward to what the future brings.”  

Contractor of the Year finalists were judged on several criteria, including industry experience, commitment to safety, company management practices and references from their peers.  In order to be nominated, a company had to meet the following standards: have a least 10 years of construction company ownership experience, have annual revenues of $3 to $15 million, have a proven and excellent safety record, and represent the construction industry in a positive way.

2017 Sportsman's Youth Challenge

What an amazing day we had at our First Annual Sportsman's Youth Challenge - March 18, 2017! We partnered with TWRA to bring an event for children/grandchildren of our employees, friends and subcontractors in the Tri-Cities. We had archery, target shooting with air soft rifles, an education trailer where the kids learned about animals in TN, casting for fishing, boater safety, and each child made a turkey call.
